Samsung India Bolsters Chennai Presence with Major WeWork Lease, Signaling Flexible Workspace Trend

CHENNAI, INDIA – June 10, 2025 – Samsung India Electronics has significantly expanded its operational footprint in Chennai by securing a lease for 1,000 desks at WeWork’s Olympia Cyberspace facility. This strategic move, encompassing 61,230 square feet, effectively doubles Samsung’s presence in the managed office space sector within Chennai.

The 42-month lease agreement underscores Samsung’s dedication to adaptability and agility in the rapidly evolving business landscape, according to a source close to the transaction. WeWork’s Olympia Cyberspace, strategically positioned in Guindy at a key entry point to Central Chennai, is a sprawling facility exceeding 250,000 square feet and designed to accommodate over 3,000 desks, offering a modern and expansive environment for businesses. This facility aims to provide Samsung with enhanced access to crucial markets and talent pools, aligning with the company’s broader growth objectives across India.

Samsung’s decision to expand in Chennai reflects a growing trend among multinational corporations that are increasingly leveraging flexible workspace solutions. These solutions enable companies to optimize operations, foster innovation, and respond more dynamically to market demands. This significant lease also highlights Chennai’s burgeoning status as a pivotal hub for technology and innovation, successfully attracting substantial investments from global industry leaders.

As of December 2024, WeWork’s extensive network in India encompasses approximately 100,000 desks across 63 locations in eight major cities: Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Pune, Hyderabad, and Chennai. The company boasts a diverse portfolio of existing tenants, including prominent global brands such as Amazon Web Services, JP Morgan, Warner Bros. Discovery, Deutsche Telekom, and Grant Thornton.
