New IT Parks to Drive Tech Growth in West Bengal

Share

The West Bengal government is set to establish four new IT parks, with three planned for North Bengal and one in Chinsurah, Hooghly. This initiative builds on the success of existing IT infrastructure, as State IT and Electronics Minister Babul Supriyo noted that the three current IT parks in Siliguri are operating at 100% occupancy, driving the expansion.

In North Bengal, the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) has already commenced work on an IT park in Kurseong, and construction for another in Kalimpong (near Delo) is slated to begin soon. The government is also planning an additional IT park in Jalpaiguri.

Across West Bengal, there are currently 22 IT parks managed by WBEIDC (Webel), a state Public Sector Undertaking under the Department of IT & Electronics, with occupancy rates ranging from 80% to 100%.

The development of these four new IT parks was discussed by Anoop Kumar Agrawal, Additional Chief Secretary in the Department of IT and Electronics, during the 16th Business IT Conclave, organized by the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with the World Trade Center, NDITA, and other organizations on Friday.

Minister Supriyo also mentioned the availability of land at competitive rates in a hardware park located in Sonarpur.
