GANDHINAGAR: The Gujarat state government has given its in-principle approval this Friday for a significant allocation of ₹3,395 crore, earmarked for crucial urban development initiatives. This funding will be distributed among four municipal corporations, including three recently established ones, and two existing municipalities.
An official communiqué outlined the specific disbursements:
- The Surat Municipal Corporation is set to receive a substantial ₹3,263 crore.
- Nadiad Municipal Corporation has been allocated ₹45 crore.
- Surendranagar Municipal Corporation will be granted ₹63 crore.
- Anand Municipal Corporation is approved for ₹17 crore.
These financial approvals, falling under the Mukhyamantri Sheheri Vikas Yojana (Chief Minister’s Urban Development Scheme), are intended to bolster various essential urban services and infrastructure. Key areas of focus include: providing facilities in urban outgrowth zones, implementing unique identity projects, enhancing urban mobility, and developing critical infrastructure like storm water drainage systems, water supply networks, and robust solid waste management solutions.
Beyond these primary recipients, specific funds have also been sanctioned for development in the outgrowth areas of the Songadh and Bharuch municipalities. Songadh is slated to receive ₹3.99 crore, and Bharuch will get ₹0.95 crore, with these funds designated for projects such as water tanks, pipelines, and street lighting.
In a broader strategic move, the state government has designated 2025 as the “urban development year,” adopting the theme “earn well and live well.” This declaration underscores a clear governmental commitment to enhancing the quality of services available in both established cities and their rapidly expanding periphery areas, with the ultimate goal of improving residents’ overall quality of life.
